Question
My mum has Crohn’s disease. Can I catch it from her?

Answer
Crohn’s disease, although it does have some symptoms similar to infections such as diarrhoea, is not infectious and so cannot be spread through being in contact with someone who has it. It does run in families and if you’re mum has it then are at an increased risk of also developing Crohn’s disease in the future. It does not mean that you will get it and most people don’t despite another family member having Crohn’s disease.
